Then main destination country in volumes of our DOC and DOCG wines in bottles is Germany, which in the first quarter of the year purchased 264,000 hectoliters, mostly red. Followig are the U.S. with 222.00 hectoliters: curiously they import the greatest amount of red wines, being the first destination market for this type, despite being Pinot Grigio-dependent. Third is the United Kingdom, with 100,000 hectoliters, the half of which are red wines. Then Canada and Switzerland, still with red wines. The first country where the whites prevail is at the bottom of the charts, South Korea, China imports more than 12,000 hectoliters, mostly red, beating promising Russia.
Speaking about the values the U.S. recovers the first position with 105 million euros, 30 million euros more than Germany. On the third and fourth position rise Switzerland and Canada, ousting the United Kingdom. The surprise of China over Russia is also confirmed in the values: 1 million euros more.
Average prices: here, as always, Hong Kong stands out with double digit values. Followed by Singapore, which does not particularly like whites, and Switzerland, which for a red of origin pays 6 euros per liter. Then follows a list of small but rich countries, all european: Luxembourg and the scandinavian countries, and then the U.S., that do not exceed 5 euro per liter. Interesting to note that other big countries, Germany and UK, are also those who pay less than ever.
